It buries the theatrical Blu Ray version. I have never seen The Fellowship with such depth in colour, detail and over all splendor. Got it yesterday at Costco for $59.75 and after watching The Fellowship spread out over 2 discs last night I am now convinced that those who complain about the picture in any way are natural born complainers. I just thought I'd mention it, and maybe others could add comments if they see something different. You will most likely not 'notice' any changes or even care. The films are still great, but when one finally gets a jumbo pack one has been waiting for for years one really wants it to be perfect. If you have not seen LotR since in a theatre(or on DVD 5 years ago) do not worry. If you have the standard edition on Blu-Ray, and watched it recently, the difference is quite notable. The changes to Fellowship are of such a noticeable degree, that the video quality gets a score of 4/5, where the rest of the triologys video quality gets 5/5's. There seems to not have been a real comment on this change from Jackson, only that 'all is well'. It's such a degree of change, reviewers do not know if it is an error(!) in the transfer or a possible change to match the upcomming Hobbit films(?). Reviewers claim there has been a color change on Fellowship. If I didnt mention this, you might not have noticed it on the extended edition: So, I feel it's only necessary to pay my continuous tribute to one of the greatest cinematic trilogies of all-time, and remind you that after eight long years, you can finally own all of them on Blu-Ray.Īnd for anyone concerned about the rumored "greenness" of the video that I've heard some mention, don't worry too much, as High-Def Digest still gave it a glowing 4.5/5 stars, and also 5/5 stars, too. Return of the King is my all-time personal favorite movie and my unforgettable experience seeing these three back in 2001, 20 was integral in putting me on the path that brought about and got me here today. But today is a day where I make an exception because, plain and simply, I love Lord of the Rings. Now some may say we've never, ever written about DVDs/Blu-Rays before, and that is true, and we don't. The best place to pick up a copy is on Amazon for $69.99 (click to support FS.net!) - that's where I got mine! I'm an all-out, die-hard Lord of the Rings fanboy and will be in a theater in Burbank tonight watching all four hours of Return of the King, so be sure to get your copy if you haven't. Ever since the series finished in 2003, fans have been anxiously awaiting high def, Blu-Ray copies of the movies, and not just the theatrical editions, but the true fan-favorite Extended Editions. Let's pause for just a moment so I can remind everyone that on sale today is the long-awaited Blu-Ray box set of The Lord of the Rings: Extended Editions.
